Can I get married by the District Court?
Yes. Persons wishing to be married in the 89th District Court can schedule a date to be married by the Magistrate.
First however, persons wishing to be married must obtain a marriage license. This may be purchased at the county clerks office in the county in which you reside. Cheboygan Counties fee is $20 for Michigan residents, $30 for out-of-state residents. Upon application, there is a 3-day waiting period prior to issue. Marriage licenses are valid for 30 days after issue. The county clerks office will provide additional information as required. After the marriage license is purchased, you may contact the court at 231-627-8853 to schedule a marriage by the magistrate.
