*Due to the increasing use of drugs, specifically prescription drugs, Sheriff Clarmont, with his commitment to pro-active enforcement, during his second term, instituted with approval from the Cheboygan County Board of Commissioners, a new detective division, Drug Diversion, created with the help from grants from Purdue University and the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators, Inc (NADDI) which also provides training on a national level.  This is the first of its kind for local departments in the state of Michigan.  This has now enabled the Sheriff Department to remain strong in the fight against drug abuse with local convictions from delivery to federal convictions of murder.
