Job Description
- Work under the direct supervision and assist the Equalization Director
- With training and courses, will become knowledgeable of the Michigan Property Tax system
- Read, write and draw basic property legal descriptions
- Must be enrolled in the State Tax Commission course for MCAO certification within 24 months. Must pass and obtain MCAO certification upon completion of course.
- Organize appraisal studies for all classes of property.
- Assist in various reports for County Equalization and Property Tax Division.
- Provide general details of property tax law and office procedures to the public.
- Visit locations throughout the County to conduct appraisals of all classes of property. (Appraisals include but are not limited to recording physical data, estimate parcel size, observe and record the size and condition to any improvements, make determination of true cash value using the Michigan Assessors Manual, conduct interviews with property owners, tenants, etc.)
- Learn and use the BS&A software systems for assessing and tax administration.
- Must have knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Work in conjunction to comply with the Michigan Property Tax Calendar.
- File all documents necessary for Equalization appraisal studies.
- Assist with the processing of tax bills and change of assessment notices.
- Research records, if necessary, in the treasurers and register of deed’s offices.
- Answer the office telephone and assist the public at the counter in a professional manner.
- Any other duties assigned by the Equalization Director.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Working knowledge of computers
- Must have good communication skills and be effective dealing with the public and staff
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Valid Michigan drivers license
- Experience in real estate, appraisal, and/or assessment administration a plus
