Cheboygan County Economic Development Corporation and Cheboygan County Community Development Department.

The Cheboygan County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) is supported through the Cheboygan County Community Development Department. Supporting business start ups in Cheboygan County is a top priority of the EDC. A great network of resources and organizations have been put together to help you realize your business development goal. They are highlighted in the following information. The Northern Lakes Economic Alliance.

Cheboygan County is a member county of the Northern Lakes Economic Alliance, which  is a non-profit economic and community development group.  Their web site, www.northernlakes.net, contains a great deal of information under a tab entitled Services for Small Business. This section includes links to resources including research databases, startup lists, local and state business resource organizations.  The NLEA in partnership with the Michigan Small Business and Technology Development Center (MI-SBTDC) provide a wide array of counseling services, classes and business planning assistance to people interested in starting a successful business or to those already in business.

 

NLEA business counselors are available through the Cheboygan Area Chamber of Commerce on the third Wednesday of each month and through the Indian River Chamber of Commerce on the first Wednesday of each month on a prearranged basis. You can contact the Cheboygan Area Chamber of Commerce at 231-627-7183 and the Indian River Chamber of Commerce at 231-238-9325. They will be happy to help you.

 

Business Resource Centers

The Cheboygan Area Public Library and the Mackinaw Area Public Library now serve as Business Resource Centers. They have available many publications that can help you plan and operate your business.  You can contact either library by clicking the name and inquiring by email or phone. The Indian River Area Library will soon serve as a business resource center as well.
