The Cheboygan County Department of Veterans Affairs serves all Cheboygan County Veterans, whether these Veterans served our country during peace time or in an era of conflict. Cheboygan County treats every Veteran with the utmost respect and dignity they deserve.
As of August 20, 2008, the Cheboygan County Board of Commissioners voted to adopt the Resolution No. 08-019: To Reorganize the Legal Structure for Providing Veterans Services in Cheboygan County. As a result of this action, the Cheboygan County Administrator and Human Resources Department will provide leadership and management assistance to this important county department. The County Administrator will be directly responsible for the Cheboygan County Department of Veterans Affairs and accountable to the County Commissioners.
The Cheboygan County Department of Veterans Affairs will have three emergency relief funds in place for Veterans and their families:
- The Soldiers Relief Fund
- The Michigan Veterans Trust Fund
- The Veterans Assistance Fund
These funds will be available to the Veteran for emergency monetary help. If the Veteran finds him or herself in a situation that has left financial difficulties then the Veteran can apply for help from one of the three emergency funds. It is important to note that with all three funds a simple application process is required. The Veteran must provide a copy of an Honorable DD-214 Military Discharge and must be able to show acceptable reason for the financial help requested. We will assist all Veterans in obtaining a DD-214 if they do not have a copy available. Monies may not be accessible immediately upon receipt of the application. The Cheboygan County Department of Veterans Affairs will assess each circumstance and provide as much support as is possible, within the guidelines allowed by each fund.
The Cheboygan County Department of Veterans Affairs is moving forward with great strides. These new changes will provide more qualified and professional services for veterans.
Services that are now available to veterans from the Cheboygan County Department of Veterans Affairs are as follows:
