Permits, Forms and Fees

Driveways

All permits approved by fax will be accessed a $5.00 processing fee each. Failure to obtain permit will result in DOUBLE FEES.

DRIVEWAYS OTHER THAN COMMERCIAL   (CRA 100)

  • Existing Residential (paving or no improvement) - $15.00
  • Residential (one single family home) - $30.00
  • Multifamily Residential (2-4 single family homes) - $30.00
  • Access or Haul Road - $30.00
  • Field Entrance - $30.00
  • Utility Structure Driveway - $30.00


COMMERCIAL  DRIVEWAYS (CRA 100)

  • Commercial Driveway - $100.00      
  1. Multifamily Residential (5 or more homes)
  2. Turn lane/Passing
  3. Flares/Multiple Driveways

ROAD CONSTRUCTION or RECONSTRUCTION (CRA 100)

  • $1,000.00 minimum - $2,000.00 per mile

MISCELLANEOUS (CRA 100)

  • Grading, Landscaping, Ditch Cleanout, Tree Removal - $100.00

FINES

  • Permit Violation or Working Without a Permit - $250.00 per violation or access

LONGITUDINAL (PARALLEL) INSTALLATIONS  (CRA 100)

Public Utilities (Electric, Telephone, Gas, Sewer, Water, etc)

  • Aerial Cable - New/not on an existing pole(s)
    • up to 100 feet - $50.00
    • over 100 feet - $200.00
  • Plowed
    • up to 100 feet - $75.00
    • over 100 feet - $300.00
  • Trenched (Gas, Oil, Steam, Conduit, Multiple Tile Duct, etc)
    • up to 500 feet - $100.00
    • plus $.20/ft over 500 Feet - MAX $500.00
  • Sewers (Storm and Sanitary) 
    • up to 200 feet - $100.00
    • plus $.25/ft over 200 Feet - MAX $500.00

Private Utilities (Gas, Oil, Cable TV, etc)

  • Aerial Cable - New/not on an existing pole(s)

TRANSVERSE INSTALLATIONS (ROAD CROSSINGS)   (CRA 100) 

Public and Private Utilities

  • Aerial Cable (All) - $50.00
  • Plowed Cable (gravel/dirt roads only) - $75.00
  • Bore and Jack (Single service line) - $75.00
  • All other installations:
    • 4” or less diameter - $50.00
    • 4” to 12” diameter - $75.00
    • 12” to 24” diameter - $150.00
    • Over 24” diameter - $250.00
  • Pavement Cutting:
    • Access to publicly owned sanitary sewer or water main - $75.00
    • Underground Single Service Connection crossing roadway - $75.00


ANNUAL UTILITY PERMITS  (CRA 100)

$300.00 - For maintenance purposes and single service longitudinal connections that do not require digging in road base or shoulders. 


INSPECTION FEES

Inspection Fees will be charges at a rate of $30.00 per hour for trenched utility construction projects over 500 feet in length. Estimated inspection fees shall be paid prior to issuance of the permit.

STATE TRUNKLINE RIGHT-OF-WAY PERMITS

State trunkline highway right-of-way permit fee schedule depends on permit type. Information on these permits can be obtained at online or the complete package of forms needed to process these permits is available at the Cheboygan County Road Commission’s Main Office in Indian River.

TRANSPORTATION PERMITS

PURPOSE: To permit Oversize and Overweight loads on the Cheboygan County Road System. The permit is issued for the power unit (Cab) for any combination towed behind subject to state law and the CRAM Rules for Movement of Oversize or Overweight Vehicles and Loads.

Authority:  MCL 257.722; MCL 257.725. All permits approved by fax will be accessed a $5.00 processing fee each.


OVER SIZE / OVER WEIGHT (per power unit) Extended Move Form CRA(101), Single Move Form CRA (102)

Extended (Annual) Permits are not valid in restricted areas such as Posted Bridges or Specially Designated Roads.  (See Rules)

  • Single/Round Trip up to 5 calendar days (CRA 102) - $25.00
  • Multiple Trips up to 5 calendar days (CRA 102) - $50.00
  • Extended (Annual) Cab Permit (CRA 101) - $100.00


MOBILE HOMES & BUILDINGS Extended Move Form CRA (103), Single Move Form CRA (104),                  Building and Special Permit CRA (105)

Extended (Annual) Permits are not valid in restricted areas such as Posted Bridges or Specially Designated Roads. 

  • Single/Round Trip up to 5 calendar days (CRA 104) - $25.00
  • Extended (Annual) Cab Permit (CRA 103) - $100.00
  • Building Moves (CRA 105) - $100.00

*Each move requires a separate permit.

An inspection fee may be required for Building move permits. The amount of the fee will be determined by the anticipated cost of the inspection for the permit.

 

SEASONAL WEIGHT RESTRICTION EXEMPTIONS Special Weight Restriction Form CRA (210),                  Non Seasonal Milk Transportation (CRA Seasonal Milk), Seasonal Agricultural Transportation (CRA Seasonal Agricultural), Route Notification Request (CRA Seasonal Agricultural Notice), Seasonal Public Utility Transportation (CRA Public Utility) and Route Notification (CRA Public Utility Notice)

Bonding may be required at the discretion of the Road Commission for special permits issued during the Seasonal Weight Restriction Period. The Road Commission reserves the right to alter the requested route(s). Permits may be denied at the discretion of the Road Commission.

  • General (other than above at the discretion of the Road Commission) 
    • Single Move (One way) (CCRC 210) -  $25.00
    • Multiple Moves during the Restriction Period (CCRC 210) -  $100.00
  • Bonds (Bonding in the form of an Irrevocable Letter of Credit, Certified Check, Money Order, or Cash. Deposit may be required at the discretion of the Road Commission for the Roads used for Permits allowing movement of unrestricted loads during the Seasonal Weight Restriction Period.)
    • Bond rate per mile - $5,000.00
    • Minimum Bond for routes less than 1 mile - $5,000.00

Road Bonding Forms

Private Road Signs

The Cheboygan County Road Commission may install private road name signs requested by a Township or Individual for a fixed fee. The fee shall be based on cost for time and materials, assuming one (1) hour to install. Applicant will be required to provide documentation from GIS Equalization the correct name and spelling of the private road. The administrative staff shall periodically review cost of time and materials and make necessary adjustments to keep the fee current. 

Private road signs can be requested on the below form. The cost is $160.00* for the sign and materials to install and installation of the private road sign. The attached form must be completed by applicant, taken to the Cheboygan County GIS Office (at the Cheboygan County Building) for approval. Once signed by GIS, the signed form and check for $160.00*, payable to the Cheboygan County Road Commission, should be submitted to our offices at 5302 S. Straits Highway, Indian River, Michigan 49749 for processing.
