Driveway Culvert Policy

Below are the minimum requirements for a driveway unless otherwise noted on the issued permit.

·       New culverts must be a minimum of 15” Corrugated Metal Pipe (CMP) or Smooth Line Plastic Pipe.

·       Minimum length:  30’.

·       Maximum length:  50’.

·       No headwalls of any type.

·       Different types of pipe cannot be joined to meet desired lengths.

·       End sections will be at the discretion of the Cheboygan County Road Commission.

Commercial driveways may be extended to more than 50’ and may require a deceleration lane.

INSPECTION FEES:

Inspection Fees will be charges at a rate of $30.00 per hour for trenched utility construction projects over 500 feet in length.  Estimated inspection fees shall be paid prior to issuance of the permit.

STATE TRUNKLINE RIGHT-OF-WAY PERMITS:

State trunkline highway right-of-way permit fee schedule depends on permit type.  Information on these permits can be obtained at  www.mdot/state.mi.us/webforms or the complete package of forms needed to process these permits is available at the Cheboygan County Road Commission’s Main Office in Indian River.

TRANSPORTATION PERMITS:

OVER SIZE / OVER WEIGHT (per power unit)

Extended (Annual) Permits are not valid in restricted areas such as Posted Bridges or Specially Designated Roads.  (See Rules)

An inspection fee may be required for Building move permits. The amount of the fee will be determined by the anticipated cost of the inspection for the permit.

SEASONAL WEIGHT RESTRICTION EXEMPTIONS

Bonding may be required at the discretion of the Road Commission for special permits issued during the Seasonal Weight Restriction Period.  The Road Commission reserves the right to alter the requested route(s).  Permits may be denied at the discretion of the Road Commission.
