Sheriff Dale Clarmont is a native of Cheboygan and upon graduating from Cheboygan Area High School he entered the US Navy serving 8 years before coming back to Cheboygan. Dale started with the Cheboygan County Sheriff Department in 1987 in the Dispatch/Corrections Division. In 1989 he graduated from the Delta Police Academy and was promoted to Road Patrol. In 1994 he was promoted to Detective Sergeant and in 2000 he was elected Sheriff of Cheboygan County.
Sheriff Clarmont has a BA Degree from Lake Superior State University in Business Administration and also an Associates Degree in Accounting from North Central Michigan College.
Sheriff Clarmont is a 2004 graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico Va.
Sheriff Clarmont has been a member of the Michigan National Guard for over 15 years attaining his current rank of Brigade Command Sergeant Major.
Undersheriff Michael Newman is a native of Cheboygan and started with the Cheboygan County Sheriff Department in 1977 in the Marine Division. In that same year he was promoted to the corrections division and with in one year he was sent to the Northern Michigan University Police Academy. In 1978 he became a certified Road Deputy with the department. In 1987 he was promoted to Sergeant.
Sheriff Clarmont became Sheriff in 2001 and Michael was then appointed to Undersheriff. His duty is to oversee the every day operations of all divisions within the Sheriff Department.
