CAN I GET MARRIED BY THE DISTRICT COURT MAGISTRATE?
Yes. Persons wishing to be married in the 89th District Court can schedule a date to be married by the Magistrate.
First, however, persons wishing to be married must obtain a marriage license at the County Clerk's office. The license issued by the County Clerk is valid for 33 days from the date of issue. (MCL 551.103a)
After the marriage license is purchased, you may contact the District Court to schedule a marriage with the magistrate. Marriages are performed Monday through Friday during scheduled court hours. Per MCL 600.8616, there is a $10.00 fee for each marriage performed. This fee is deposited into the county's (control unit's) treasury.
Additionally, persons may schedule marriages through the Probate Court.
