PUBLIC NOTICE

Cheboygan County has been made aware of a malicious phishing scheme targeting residents and businesses with fraudulent messages requesting payment of fees allegedly owed to the County.

These messages may appear to come from official sources and may include logos, names of county departments, personnel or references to legitimate-sounding programs. They are false and are not issued by the County.

What You Need to Know:

• The County will never request electronic payment via email or unsolicited text message.
• Do not click on suspicious links, open unexpected attachments, or provide personal or financial information.
• Official county correspondence regarding payments or fees will be issued in person, through secure and verified channels or by mail only.

What To Do If You Receive a Suspicious Message:

• Do not respond to the message.
• Do not click on any links or download any attachments.

Stay Safe:

• Always verify requests for payment by contacting the appropriate County department directly using official contact information found on our website: WWW.Cheboygancounty.net
• Keep your software and antivirus tools updated.
• Be cautious with emails requesting urgent action or threatening consequences.
