Civil Process

The Office of the Sheriff, by statute must maintain a civil division. The division is responsible for service of:

• Summons and Complaints
• Orders to Seize Property
• Small Claims – Order of Evictions (Tenant Removal)
• Notice of Hearings
• Personal Protection Orders
• Child Support Petitions
• Summary Proceedings
• Foreclosure Sales
• Order to Show Causes

Fees for the service are set by statute based on the type of paper that is served. Please contact the Civil Process Division to inquire about the approximate cost for service, which would include a mileage fee.

This division is also responsible for the weekly foreclosure sales. These sales are open to the public and are held every Friday from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm in the front lobby of the Cheboygan County Building.

Weekly adjournments are posted every Thursday evening on the front door lobby of the Cheboygan County Building.
